Amsterdam

The awesome thing about Europe (as most people know), is that everything is so close together. It takes three hours on the high speed Thalys train to get from Paris to Amsterdam. Dad and I were interested to find that the hotel we are staying in, the Sofitel Legend The Grand, dates from 1578. I put a few photos of the outside of the building down below.

The first thing you notice about Amsterdam is the bikes – and they seem to be exempt from most road rules. After that, its the architecture. It’s so different from Paris yet it’s only three hours away. I’m sure most of you, if you’re from Europe, are used to this. But coming from Australia (where everything is less than 200-something years old), we are used to architecture that is largely the same from one end of the country to the other.

Our hotel lies in a little square near the Oude Kerk (Old Church).
