Monaco is one of those places that, for me at least, does not live up to the hype. Although, I think this can be attributed to the fact that I am a travelling student with limited funds and not one of the world’s rich elite. The town itself is not the most picturesque – it just seems to be a jumble of hotels and apartment buildings, all scrambling for a place on the hillside. However, the famous casino, the harbour and the Old Town are all worth a visit. The casino and the harbour are a must-see almost solely due to their reputation, but if you are a fan of luxury cars or yachts you could probably spend hours just wandering around this area. The Old Town on the hill, however, actually boasts some very beautiful architecture, including the Musée Océanographique (aquarium) and the Cathédrale de Monaco. I didn’t find the Prince’s Palace to be that interesting in itself, but the views from the courtyard offer an incredible vista of the harbour and you can see Monaco, France and Italy all from this one lookout point.
