Vatican City

On my final day in Rome I rushed to the Vatican for opening time, anxious to avoid the mid-summer queues. The upshot of this was the beams of morning light that shone through the windows of St Peter’s Basilica, which made for quite dramatic photos with a very fitting, biblical feel. Unfortunately, by the time I had finished taking shots of the Basilica, the line for the Sistine Chapel had drastically increased and there wasn’t enough time to see it before my train to Florence. Since you can’t take photos of the Sistine Chapel (and my camera is too large to do it clandestinely), the fact that I missed out doesn’t really impact on this blog in any way… It just means I have to make up an excuse to visit Rome again to see it for myself in the future – next time I should really plan my sight-seeing better!
