Shangri-La in the Whyanbeel Valley

This holiday house in the remote Whyanbeel Valley was definitely the highlight of our trip to Far North Queensland. We were on a big family holiday and my Dad had kept pretty quiet about the accommodation we were staying in – he would only say this next house was “pretty rustic” (he likes to joke around quite a bit). So needless to say, when we pulled into the driveway of this French Provincial style house surrounded by a coconut and mango orchard, we were all incredibly shocked and excited. Then we saw the infinity pool overlooking the Daintree mountains and that was the icing on the cake.

If you are ever in the area and looking for a unique and secluded place to stay, away from the conventional resorts and tourists, I could not recommend this place highly enough. You’ve got everything you need, plus a few lavish extras – a pool cabana that you can sleep in at night with your own outdoor bathroom being just one of them.

The orchard and the surrounding gardens reminded me of Jurassic Park with its towering jungle and canopy rainforest – scroll down to the last few photos to see what I mean.
