I’m back from the South of France now and what better way to kick off my series of blog posts from this trip than with one dedicated to the hotel we chose in Nice. When I was planning this trip I knew that I wanted to make Nice our base as it’s the home of the largest airport in the area and it has great train and bus links with which to explore most of the Côte d’Azur. The problem was that we decided to book this holiday only last month so I was tasked with finding a great hotel with a pool (as requested by my boyfriend) that wasn’t prohibitively expensive in Nice’s peak season.
Splendid Hotel & Spa fit all those requirements as it was so reasonably priced for a four star hotel and it had an amazing rooftop pool, spa and bar area that was just perfect for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. If you ask for a Deluxe room you can also get an incredible private balcony with a view of the colourful Niçoise architecture. We walked down to the local bakery early one morning to pick up some pastries and coffee and ate breakfast on the balcony listening to the sounds of the city slowly waking up – bliss!
The hotel is situated on Boulevard Victor Hugo which is one of Nice’s most beautiful streets. It’s less than a 10 minute walk to the beach and only about 10 minutes to Nice’s main train station: Gare de Nice Ville. It’s also not too far from the Old Town – maybe a 20 minute walk if you meander slowly along the seafront people-watching, while looking for the perfect place to have a meal, like we did. All in all, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced luxury hotel with a pool, in the centre of Nice and close to transport links, you can’t go wrong with Splendid Hotel & Spa.
